Black Lacquered Altar Table, Shanxi Province, C19th
Description: This black lacquered altar table is of classic design. Traditionally this table would have displayed household treasures including religious offerings.

Description: The long lacquered scroll table is a wonderful Chinese accent piece for modern and traditional interiors. The crackled lacquer finish of this example is highly durable yet very tactile. The long horizontal surface is softened and offset by the exquisitely curved large scroll ends, giving a powerful sculptural effect. Description: One of the most sought after collectibles of Chinese furniture is the larger antique medicine cabinet. These cabinets have 25 drawers arranged in a 5 by 5 square, with multiple compartments within each drawer, and with 2 larger drawers beneath. This suggests they were probably used in a wealthy family home, rather than in an apothecary’s shop. They are traditionally constructed, with hoof feet and a delicately shaped apronadding an elegance to an otherwise functional chest. Price £2950 pair.

Continuous Yokeback Armchairs, Shanxi Province, late C19th/early C 20th
Description: This is a supremely elegant variation of the conventional yokeback armchair, in which the crestrail and arms normally protrude beyond their supporting posts. In this version, the crestrail and arms flow continuously into the back and front posts. This is achieved by the technically difficult rounded right angle mortise and tenon joint, or pipe joint. The result is an exquisite fluidity of line and form, enhanced by the sensuous curvature of the back splat rising to the elegant neck rest.
